Letters of notification will be sent in the week of 7th January 2008 to winners & schools.

Prizes - book tokens to the value of £150 for first prize (£75 for joint winners), £75 - second prize, £25 -third prize - and certificates to be awarded at a celebration evening in March when the anthology will be launched, and the young poets invited to read their work. To order the book send £5 cheque to our usual address - payable to North End Writers. All winners and participating schools will receive a complimentary copy.

LIVERPOOL YOUNG POETS COMPETITION 2008

Liverpool Young Poets Competition winners will be announced on

MONDAY

7th JANUARY

All winners and commended poems will be published in an anthology

 

Prizes

There will be 2 categories: 10-13 and 14-17 and in each age category there will be a first, second and third prize - (book token) prizes awarded to the value of £150, £75 and £25 respectively. All prize-winning poems will be published in the Liverpool Young Poets Anthology and each poet published will receive a copy of the anthology (publication by February 2008); details of award arrangements to be announced.

Judge

Dr Michael Murphy, Liverpool poet and scholar, will judge the competition. Michael currently teaches at Nottingham Trent University. He is an award-winning poet and critic. He has published two collections of poetry, After Attila (1998) and Elsewhere (2004) and his poetry has been praised for being 'urbane, formally adroit and at its best possessed by deep feeling' (Peter Armstrong, Other Poetry). In 2001 Michael was awarded Poetry Review 's Geoffrey Dearmer Prize for New Poet of the Year, and his poems are included in The New Irish Poets, edited by Selina Guinness (2005).
