About Us

North End Writers is a registered charity and seeks to promote, maintain, improve, and advance education by the encouragement of the literary arts and creative writing in all its forms, particularly amongst people resident in North Liverpool who are disadvantaged educationally or by reason of their gender, ethnicity, race, age, disability or social background. We are als0 a limited company.

Aims

  • To provide creative opportunities and a forum for writers living in North Liverpool, including those who have missed out on education or opportunities because of domestic responsibilities, exclusion, discrimination, poverty or misfortune.
  • To provide enrichment through literature and writing events for communities and people who feel excluded from metropolitan “Culture.” In particular to develop projects with people who may face discrimination because of poverty, background, disability, ethnicity, sexuality, gender or age.
  • To create sustainable writing groups in North Liverpool that provide members with social support, inclusion, encouragement and increasing self-confidence.

 

Objectives:

  • To have regular meetings for writers in the North of Liverpool and to support and assist those writers to produce work that is both enjoyable and excellent.
  • To provide creative workshops free to people who have not had any previous opportunity to explore their own creativity.
  • To promote and provide readings and events in the North of Liverpool involving established writers, poets, musicians and dramatists.
  • To produce a regular publication called The Accent and publications of work produced through North End meetings, initiatives and workshops.
  • To work positively and openly with other arts and literature organisations in Liverpool.

Community Office: We are able to run the office because of the support of volunteers: Opening hours (except for school holiday) are 9.30 am - 2.30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If you want to visit - check there's someone in by calling the community office on 0151 254 2222 first.
