North End Writers - Projects

NATURE IN THE CITY PROJECT 2009

This project, for Liverpool’s 2009 year of the environment, seeks to celebrate and promote eco-writing and images as a way of raising the wider consciousness amongst aspiring writers and the general public of natural habitats and landscapes within the urban environment.

What will the Project involve?

We will launch the project at FACT in Spring 09 as part of their Climate for Change initiative with a and this launch will include the project leaflet, a talk about nature writing and some celebratory readings of nature poetry and prose and other eco-writing. Our main guest for this event will be award-winning poet,Jen Hadfield. The leaflet will promote engagement in eco-writing – asking Liverpool writers and aspiring writers to submit poetry and micro-fiction to the theme of nature in the city – to North End Writers (closing date September 09).

Workshops

Between June and September we will host 3 community based Nature writing workshops (in Tuebrook, Fazakerley and Norris Green) open to anyone interested to encourage eco-writing and participation as well as renewed appreciation of the green spaces surrounding us.

Community Lecture Series Launch

Under this project we will hold our first Community Lecture. This will be a free event and we hope to have William Fiennes as our first community lecturer.

Community writing

In October a panel from North End Writers and associates will select the most inspiring pieces of work to be made into a series of posters and post-cards which will be displayed across the city including an exhibition and readings at a suitable green space venue.

Photography

We will work with Liverpool based photographer Christian Petersen to create appropriate photographic images to be used as posters and post-cards.

Although this project will be time specific it will create a legacy of writing and resources which will continue to promote as part of North End Writers work beyond 2009.
